Mr Ban Ki Moon
Secretary-General
United Nations
Honorable Secretary General
This letter is addressed to you in regard to the crimes committed by the regime in Syria. The world as we know it suffers atrocities committed by governments in many places, yet the Syrian massacre do currently stand in the middle of the world's diplomatic and media attention, and these international forces must do everything within their power to stop it.
Since its inception the United Nations organization was meant to promote and advance human rights, to prevent war, and to defend the world from crimes of genocide.
It seems like we have failed miserably in performing those obligations:
We failed in Cambodia.
We failed in Rwanda.
We failed in the Balkans.
We failed in the Congo.
We failed in Darfur.
And we failed in dozens of other places as well.
We failed to take action, and by that we enabled every cruel dictator to have his way while we were busy arguing, condemning and using strong language while actually doing nothing. Every time we did nothing, we saw the seeds of thee next crime.
We have crated a world where violence and oppression are acceptable methods, and in doing so turned the 20th century to a litany of genocides.
Mr Secretary-General, as the world's foremost diplomat, and as leader of the international community, I implore you to take action in Syria. You have the authority and prestige to stand before the nations of the world and call for action as loud as you can, you have the power to appeal to the people of the world directly and call for every person his or her best to aid. Syria is currently in the center of world's attention; any action you will take at this point will inspire others, and may stall the hand of the next tyrant. That action must be taken without regard to the Security Council, the super powers, national interests or real politic, but simply as an act of humanity. The actions must be resolute, no condemnations, no sanctions, an immediate response to stop the slaughter.
If the world's community led by he United Nations can intervene in this instance we can prevent the next atrocity, and if that is not possible, it may be the time to disband the UN and crate a new organization that can?
