Nir, Don't Sell the City! Establish a Pluralistic Coalition!

To the Attention of Mayor Elect Nir Barkat We, residents of Jerusalem have worked very hard to elect you; we went out into the streets, convinced undecided voters, and brought many people to the polls in order that you would be the next mayor of Jerusalem. The vote in the last election was a vote against the continuing discrimination on the part of the Charedi leadership in Jerusalem. Your choice as candidate was a choice of hope that Jerusalem would see a new leadership that would correct the injustices of the last few years. Your intention to form a coalition on the basis of a Charedi faction scares us. Mr. Barkat, you do not have the right to misappropriate the mandate which was given to you by your supporters and to grant authority and power to the Charedi parties. We call upon you to seize the historic opportunity which has fallen into your hands, and to build a coalition which unites the pluralistic forces on the council: Jerusalem Will Succeed, Meretz, the NRP, Wake Up Jerusalemites, Jerusalem is Our Home, Likud, For the Sake of Jerusalem, and Pisgat Ze'ev. We have chosen you, and our hope and the obligation of your office is now on your shoulders. Do not squander the trust which has been placed in you by those who have brought you to power. Nir, don't betray the public which elected you! The Pluralistic Coalition
