לשמור על הגיורות -- Protect the converts

וְגֵר לֹא-תוֹנֶה, וְלֹא תִלְחָצֶנּוּ:  כִּי-גֵרִים הֱיִיתֶם, בְּאֶרֶץ מִצְרָיִם....אִם-עַנֵּה תְעַנֶּה, אֹתוֹ--כִּי אִם-צָעֹק יִצְעַק אֵלַי, שָׁמֹעַ אֶשְׁמַע צַעֲקָתוֹ. (שמות כ"ב כ-כ"ב)

"Do not torture the stranger nor pressure him, for you, too, were strangers in the land of Egypt....If you torture him and he cries out to me, I will hear his cries." (Shemot 22; 20-22)

The cries of the converts are being heard right now. The cries of converts who were subjected to terrible abuse and exploitation at the hands of Rabbi Barry Freundel are calling out to the entire Jewish community. Their cries must be heard not only by God but by all the people of Israel. The Israeli Chief Rabbinate is considering invalidating conversions conducted by Freundel. We must NOT let this happen! The women are victims -- and still valid Jews!! By reviewing and undermining their conversions, the Chief Rabbis are victimizing the women twice! It is a horrifying way of punishing the victims  for crimes committed against them by their rabbi-abuser. Do not let the converts suffer again. This is a basic Torah principle: Do not let the convert suffer because you, too, were once strangers in Israel.

We call on the Chief Rabbinate to leave the converts alone and NOT to question their status as full Jews.

צעקותיהן של הגיורות נשמעות היום. הגיורות שעברו ניצול והתעללות בידיו המכוערות של רב ברי פרוינדל במשך תקופת הגיור שלהן צעקות עכשיו, ומבקשות את עזרתנו. הרבנות הראשית של מדינת ישראל שוקלת היום לבטל את הגיורים של פרוינדל. דבר כזה מהווה עוול שאין כמותו -- להעניש דווקא את הקרבנות של התעללות בגלל החטאים של המתעלל שלהם! אל תתנו לגיורות לסבול שנית. אל תתנו לרבנות לבטל את הגיורים. זה כלל בסיסי בתורה: אסור לענות את הגרים, כי גרים היינו בארץ מצרים.

אנחנו קוראים לרבנים בארץ ובעולם לא לבטל את הגיורים ולקבל את הגיורות והגרים כיהודים שלמים.
