We, Jewish and Arab writers and citizens of Israel, stand together, shocked by the terrorist attack in which two brothers of the Yaniv family from Har Bracha were murdered, and by the pogrom launched by Jewish terrorists in Hawara, Burin and the surrounding villages.

The escalation and the creation of a spiral of violence, with no end in sight, indicate that the splitting of Israel’s Ministry of Defense, the breaking of the chain of command, and the transfer of powers in the West Bank to Minister Bezalel Smotrich, in a way that promotes the de facto annexation of the occupied territories, damage the ability of Israeli society and of the Israel Defense Forces to contend with the many challenges in the area, and with the fragile and explosive relations between Israelis and Palestinians.

Democracy cannot exist without a constitution. Democracy cannot survive when dark forces use democratic tools to attack the values of democracy and the structures of government and to rip them to shreds. Democracy cannot exist where the regime in power occupies another people’s land and deprives that people of its rights.

Together we will safeguard democracy in Israel; together we will prevent bloodshed; together we will establish a covenant of peoples and peace.

     אנו, סופרות וסופרים יהודיות.ים וערביות.ים אזרחי.ות ישראל, עומדים מזועזעים מול הפיגוע שבו נרצחו שני בני משפחת יניב מהר-ברכה, ומול הפוגרום של טרוריסטים יהודיים בחווארה, בבורין ובכפרים מסביב.

     ההסלמה ויצירת מעגל אלימות שאין לו סוף במצב הקיים מעידה: קריעת משרד הביטחון, שבירת שרשרת הפיקוד והעברת הסמכויות באיו"ש לידי השר בצלאל סמוטריץ', באופן המקדם סיפוח דה-פקטו של השטחים הכבושים, פוגעת ביכולתה של החברה הישראלית ושל צה"ל להתמודד עם האתגרים הרבים באזור, ועם מרקם היחסים השביר והנפיץ בין הישראלים לפלסטינים.

     דמוקרטיה אינה יכולה להתקיים ללא חוקה. דמוקרטיה אינה יכולה לשרוד כאשר כוחות חשוכים עושים שימוש בכלים הדמוקרטיים כדי להסתער על ערכי הדמוקרטיה ועל מבני השלטון ולקרוע אותם לגזרים. דמוקרטיה אינה יכולה להתקיים תוך כדי כיבוש ושלילת זכויותיו של עם אחר.

     יחד נשמור על הדמוקרטיה בישראל, יחד נמנע שפיכות דמים, יחד נכונן ברית עמים ושלום.

"احتجاج الكاتبات والشعراء" نحن، الكاتبات والكتّاب، مواطنو دولة إسرائيل، نستنكر الهجوم الذي قُتل فيه ابنا عائلة ينيف من منطقة هار برخ، وأمام جريمة الإرهاب التي ارتكبها إرهابيّون يهود في حُوّارة وبورين والقرى المجاورة.إنّ العنف، وإنشاء دائرة عنف لا نهائيّة في الوضع الحالي يدلّ على تفكّك وزارة الأمن وكسر سلسلة القيادة، ونقل السلطات في الضفة الغربية إلى وزير الأمن تسيئيل سموتريتش، وهو ما يعزّز الضمّ الفعليّ للأراضي المحتلة، ويضرّ بقدرة المجتمع الإسرائيليّ والجيش على التعامل مع التحدّيات الكثيرة في المنطقة وما يترتّب عنها من علاقات متوتّرة بين الإسرائيليين والفلسطينيين.لا يمكن للديمقراطيّة الصمود دون قانون. لا يمكن للديمقراطية الصمود عندما تستعمل القوى المظلمة أدوات ديمقراطية للهجوم على قيم الديمقراطية وعلى مبنى السلطة وتفتيتها لأشلاء، لا يمكن للديمقراطية البقاء تحت الاحتلال وسلب حقوق شعب آخر.معًا سنحافظ على الديمقراطية في إسرائيل، معًا سنمنع سفك الدماء، ومعًا سنؤسّس عهد الأمم والسلام
