בשכונת הצעירים הנקראת דור צעיר גגות אדומים גרו בשבעה באוקטובר כמה עשרות צעירים בני הקיבוץ ואחרים ששכרו שם דירות. כשארע הטבח בתוך גדר הקיבוץ, נלחמו בשכונה הזאת מאות חיילים ורבים מהם נהרגו תוך נסיון להגן על האזרחים שגרו שם. מהשכונה הזאת נחטפו שישה ונרצחו שנים עשר.

השכנה עומדת מאז על שרידי הבתים המתפוררים ומהווה אבן שואבת לקבוצות רבות מהארץ ומחו"ל כולל אנשי צבא מהארץ ומהעולם שמגיעים לראות, להריח, לחוות ולהרגיש מה זה להיות במצב של שאננות, של קונספציה, של העדר צבא. 

את התמונות החיות האלה לא ניתן להעתיק למקום אחר כפי שרוצה כיום קיבוץ כפר עזה. 

כשנוסעים לאושוויץ לא נוסעים למקום נחמד שבו יהיה נוח לבקר 

כששורדי שואה נוסעים לפולין הם מגיעים למקום בו רצחו את הוריהם לא ליד המקום. 

כמגיעים לשכונת דור צעיר רואים מהיכן נכנסו המחבלים, רואים את הגדר ואת החווה הסולרית שממנה צולמו החטיפות, רואים את השבילים שבהם היו זרוקות הגופות של החיילים שלנו ושל האהובים שלנו. 

אנחנו, שש משפחות, אדרי (משפחתו של אביעד שנרצח וראשו נערף), זיני (משפחתו של ניראל שעד היום ראשו לא נמצא), רביב (משפחתה של ניב בת הזוג של ניראל שנרצחה באכזריות מחוץ לביתה), אלקבץ (משפחתה של סיון שנרצחה בביתה ) , משפחת חסידים (משפחתו של נאור בן זוגה של סיון שנרצח בשכונה) חיים (משפחתו של יותם שנחטף מביתו בשכונת דור צעיר וחזר בארון קבורה), יחד עם תומכים רבים אחרים , שורדי הטבח ממקומות אחרים, משפחות חיילים שנהרגו שם מבקשות מהציבור לעמוד לצידנו בבקשה הכל כך הגיונית, לשמר את אותם בתי עדות במקומם הטבעי,. 

למחוק ולהרוס יהיה מאוד קל, להחזיר את המצב לקדמותו לעולם לא נצליח. 

את ההיסטוריה חייבים לשמר, על סיפור הטבח וסיפורי הגבורה שהיו בשכונה הזאת. 

הצטרפו אלינו לקריאה חד משמעית, בואו לא נברח מהאמת. נסתכל לה בעיניים. 

למען נזכור לדור דור מה עשה לנו עמלק.

The Dor Tza’ir Red Roofs neighborhood of Kibbutz Kfar Aza stands as a concentrated reflection of what occurred across Israel on October 7. Within this small residential area, young people who were building their lives were murdered, abducted, and forced to confront unimaginable violence. What happened there mirrors, in painful clarity, the broader reality that unfolded throughout the country, civilians attacked in their homes, communities overrun, and lives shattered within hours.
On October 7, this neighborhood, home to dozens young kibbutz members and additional residents who rented apartments there, became one of the central scenes of the massacre that took place within the kibbutz perimeter. During the assault, hundreds of soldiers fought in and around this area in an effort to defend the civilians living there. Many of these soldiers were killed while attempting to protect the residents. From this neighborhood alone, six people were abducted and twelve were murdered.
Since that day, the neighborhood has remained standing in its destroyed state. The ruined homes, damaged infrastructure, and visible points of infiltration have turned the area into a powerful site of testimony. Visitors from Israel and abroad, including military personnel from Israel and other countries, arrive to witness firsthand the physical reality of what occurred. They see the breached fence through which the terrorists entered, the adjacent solar field from which abductions were filmed, and the paths where the bodies of soldiers and residents lay. Standing in the actual location conveys an understanding that cannot be recreated elsewhere.

There are current efforts to rehabilitate and rebuild parts of Kibbutz Kfar Aza, including considerations that would involve demolishing or relocating what remains of the Dor Tza’ir neighborhood. However, the physical site carries irreplaceable historical and moral significance. Places where massacres occur cannot be authentically transferred. Historical memory is anchored in geography; it is shaped not only by narrative, but by the tangible environment in which events unfolded.

Six bereaved families;  family of Aviad Edri who was murdered and beheaded; family of Nirel Zini who was murdered and beheaded and whose head has not been recovered to this day;  family of Niv Raviv, Nirel’s partner, who was brutally murdered outside her home; the family of Sivan Elkabetz who was murdered in her home; the family of Naor Hasidim, Sivan’s partner, murdered in the neighborhood; and family of Yotam Chaim, abducted from his home in the Dor Tza’ir neighborhood and later returned in a coffin. Together with additional supporters, survivors from other locations within the kibbutz, and families of soldiers who were killed there, are calling for the preservation of these homes as houses of testimony in their original location.
Demolition would be simple to carry out. The erasure of visible destruction may offer a sense of renewal. However, once removed, the authenticity of the site can never be restored. Preserving the Dor Tza’ir neighborhood in its natural place ensures that the story of the massacre, alongside the stories of defense, sacrifice, and heroism that took place there, remains accessible to future generations. It is a call to preserve historical truth and to safeguard memory, so that what occurred will not be diminished, relocated, or forgotten.
