Public Statement in the name of Israeli Writers

Netanyahu is not Israel – his government does not represent us!

We, writers, academics and intellectuals, are shocked to the core by Israel's actions in Gaza.

The war that began with Israel's violation of the ceasefire and its failure to comply with the agreement to release the hostages is not the same just war that we set out to wage on October 7 after the horrific massacre in the communities of the western Negev.

The indiscriminate killing in Gaza must stop immediately.

All the hostages must be brought back at once and all together, those that are living back to their families and homes, those that are dead to burial.

A war without political goals is a war of deception.

A war in which more than 15,600 children have been killed is immoral.

This is a war with a black flag flying over it.

This war is contrary to the will and the values of the majority in Israel.

 The prime minister has no mandate to continue the war.

We are determined to defend Israeli democracy

and to preserve hope for both peoples.

המלחמה שהחלה עם הפרת הפסקת האש מצד ישראל ואי-עמידתה בהסכם שחרור החטופים אינה המלחמה הצודקת שיצאנו אליה ב-7 באוקטובר

אחרי הטבח הנורא ביישובי הנגב המערבי.

ההרג חסר האבחנה בעזה חייב להיפסק מיד.

יש להחזיר לאלתר את כל החטופות והחטופים בפעימה אחת

החיים לבתיהם והחללים לקבורה.

מלחמה שאינה מלווה ביעדים מדיניים היא מלחמת שולל.

מלחמה שבה נהרגו למעלה מ 15,600 ילדים אינה מוסרית.

זו מלחמה שדגל שחור מתנוסס מעליה.

מלחמה זו מנוגדת לרצון הרוב בישראל ולערכיו.

לראש הממשלה אין מנדט להמשיך במלחמה.

אנו נחושים להגן על הדמוקרטיה הישראלית

ולשמר תקווה לשני העמים.
